Stage 1 of taking up cruising yacht sailing is about building those solid foundations required to be a confident and competent member of a crew. The RYA Competent Crew course with Academy Sailing welcomes those who are either completely or relatively new to cruising yachts and provides tuition around personal safety, seamanship, helmsmanship and many other aspects involved in the day-to-day running of a modern cruising yacht. This enables students to gain the confidence, knowledge and skills to carry out orders given concerning the sailing and running of the boat. Stage 2 is then about taking the reigns as a Captain! The RYA Day Skipper course with Academy Sailing covers all aspects of skippering a modern cruising yacht, including boat handling, navigation, pilotage and seamanship skills. Having already previously completed your Competent Crew course (or confidently being at that standard), during your Day Skipper course you will get the opportunity to take charge of a crew and skipper short passages under the watchful eye of your Academy Sailing instructor. You will gain the experience and confidence necessary to allow you to skipper a cruising yacht in familiar waters by day. We look forward to welcoming you aboard! Notes: Your course booking is processed within 24 hours. You will be emailed an invoice for the non-refundable deposit. Once you have paid this your booking is confirmed. You will also be sent full course joining instructions. The balance is due 7 weeks before the start of the course. We advise all customers to take-out inexpensive holiday insurance (cost around £10) to protect against you needing to cancel your sailing holiday / course.
Cancellation Policy
Clients are strongly advised to take out holiday insurance that covers sailing. Sportscoverdirect.com and others offer this at very inexpensive prices (circa £12). Asking to delay or postpone your course is the same as cancelling your booking. Refunds to the Client of any money paid to Academy Sailing for a Booking are made in accordance with the following periods of notice given by the Client of the Cancellation:- * MORE than 8 weeks – full refund of the Programme fee paid LESS the non-refundable deposit amount shown against the service and LESS any card processing fees and bank fees. * 8 weeks or less, but MORE than 4 weeks – 50% of the Programme fee, LESS any card processing and bank fees. Where the Client has not made full payment, the balance between the deposit and 50% of the Programme fee must be paid to Academy Sailing before the cancellation becomes valid. * 4 weeks and less – no refund of the Programme fee. Where the Client has not made full payment, the balance between the deposit and the full programme fee remain owed by the Client to Academy Sailing.
